چکیده

Contour segmentation is typically seen as the identification either of discondnuities'"? or of describable subsectionsIO operations which are usually treated as dual. As we are interested in providing primitive descriptions to higher processes we tend toward the latter view, though the algorithm reported here combines both approaches. Local segmentation operators are used to hypothesise discontinuities which are only retained if they delimit one or more describable segments . A contour is considered describable if the mean-squares residual associated with the most likely approximating primitive falls below some threshold. No attempt is made to accurately locate discontinuities, nor is a complete description required. In our view the primary goal of a bottom-up segmentation process should be to locate only those data sets which may be reliably described. This conservative approach provides an alternative to algorithms that obtain a fuller description at the cost of imposing interpretations which may not be appropriate .

A Hybrid 3D Colon Segmentation Method Using Modified Geometric Deformable Models

Introduction: Nowadays virtual colonoscopy has become a reliable and efficient method of detecting primary stages of colon cancer such as polyp detection. One of the most important and crucial stages of virtual colonoscopy is colon segmentation because an incorrect segmentation may lead to a misdiagnosis.  Materials and Methods: In this work, a hybrid method based on Geometric Deformable Models...

Occlusion junctions do not improve stereoacuity.

Occlusion geometry gives rise to interocular shifts in the positions of binocularly viewed contour junctions. Since these shifts do not give rise to normal binocular disparities, they have been called 'pseudodisparities'. Previous work has shown that the unmatched contour segments of a partially occluded contour at occlusion junctions can be used to recover the geometry of the occluding surface...

A Hybrid Method for Segmentation and Visualization of Teeth in Multi-Slice CT scan Images

Introduction: Various computer assisted medical procedures such as dental implant, orthodontic planning, face, jaw and cosmetic surgeries require automatic quantification and volumetric visualization of teeth. In this regard, segmentation is a major step. Material and Methods: In this paper, inspired by our previous experiences and considering the anatomical knowledge of teeth and jaws, we prop...

A Theoretical Analysis of Illusory Contour Formation in Stereopsis

A theoretical analysis of how illusory contours are formed in untextured stereograms is presented. This analysis focuses on the role of contour junctions in initiating surface interpolation processes. More specifically, this theory asserts that the matching geometry of stereoscopic junctions that is, the pattern of matchable and unmatchable features present at the intersection of binocularly vi...

Image Segmentation: Type–2 Fuzzy Possibilistic C-Mean Clustering Approach

Image segmentation is an essential issue in image description and classification. Currently, in many real applications, segmentation is still mainly manual or strongly supervised by a human expert, which makes it irreproducible and deteriorating. Moreover, there are many uncertainties and vagueness in images, which crisp clustering and even Type-1 fuzzy clustering could not handle. Hence, Type-...
